As the subject heading says - according to a journo friend who interviewed Tommy G, the first episode of the new series of TGYH is due the 6th of September (I think - it might be the week after), with Tone as one of the four guests!

That's fantastic news! I wonder if they'll ever release a DVD of the best parts of series one? I'd put my hand up for that :)

Awesome! Can't wait.

And the next series shouldn't be far off either.

Wow I didn't realise they were already making series 2! Haven't finished watching the first one yet! If any kind person fancies taping it for me and sending it over to England that'll be cool, I have no problem sending money over for shipping :)

I've only been able to watch about three myself - the ones my mum taped. I've got one here that I need to watch with Rob Sitch on!

I loved that show. Thank God they're doing a second season. I was a bit worried that they wouldn't. 6th of September isn't that much longer to wait for it.

Yeah ditto kim .. Rob wasnt a major guest on the show - just played a cop in one of the interlude scenes from memory.. I think the very first ep - and you only saw the back of his head..

How about a TLS reunion episode with Rob, Santo, Tony & Mick all on together !!!

I remember hearing Santo on Mick's radio show and he and Robyn Butler started goading Mick about it, but he was fobbing them off.
So you get the feeling he has been approached, just isn't keen on the idea.

I can see that, it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. Some like Hamish Blake and Angus Sampson do it beautifully. Glenn Robbins, who I think is normally pretty funny, really battled when he was on.

Personally I couldn't see Mick doing it too well. Others like Tony and Rob in particular would be brilliant at it considering TLS days.

Think about Rob's ad libs as Graham. He'd be perfect.

Yeah and then think of the way that Rob has toned down his humour nowadays and doesn't seem to do any 'silly' stuff of yore.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that Rob seems to be the one out of all the TLS team (apart from Jase - who knows what he's up to these days) whose comedy style has really changed / developed over the years? I'd argue his Panel work was still kind of silly, but with more of a smug / opinionated edge... which, now I think about it, he always had. Only in the past he was being smug about stupid stuff (sports crap, stunt work) so it was clearly a joke, while on The Panel he was being smug about actual stuff (current affairs) so it wasn't quite as funny.

But yeah, his style really seems to have changed over the years - could it be argued that he's a comedy trailblazer trying new things while everyone else is playing it safe?

(well, probably not)

....good discussion.

I think that he once married and had children and stuff settled down a bit in his comedy and became the gentler/more serious comedian we saw on the Panel. Don't get me wrong I love him on the Panel and always get a laugh from whatever he has to say.

Can anyone seriously imagine Rob doing TGYH tho? Maybe 13 years ago, but now??

I believe he has the comedic prowess to tackle TGYH and blitz it, I just don't think he'd do it. It's too 'undergraduate' perhaps?

LSNut

There's still a bit of the old pissfarting undergrad in Rob ...

Anyone who saw the Rob as Ceaser in the Xmas pantomime on The Panel, or his Steve Irwin cameo impersonation not to mention G&TC reunion will see he can still do the undergrad humor .. straight TLS style.

I dont think Rob's sense of humor has changed, but certaintly he has channelled it into different kinds of comedy projects that are far cry from TLS days - nothing wrong with that just growing in different directions ..

Everyone bags Rob for become a self-parody of the dinner-party guy or Shitscared guy on The Panel - but I for one dont mind it a bit .. it's just Rob. I'd say he's always been like that - The Panel just shows much more of their true personality.

All of the guys are just too old for that stuff anyway. Mick & Tone could never *really* do a full-on Martin/Molloy even if they wanted to - though Tone has still retained the brilliant parodying & sketch talents & Mick does the occasional great rant .. the youthful effervecese to put it together fulltime is past ..

Again - nothing wrong with all that - just grateful the gang are all still putting out material !!

Rob exudes an arrogance and smugness that was possibly a little more likeable on TLS than the panel.
But I can't remember seeing anyone so genuinely confident on Australian live TV.

They always talk about one of Graham Kennedy's greatest assets was that he would leer at the camera and create the feel that he was staring right at the viewer at home on the couch. I think Rob can do this as well as the King. Seriously, check out a couple of Graham and the Colonel skits...it's like he's looking right through you.

Are we sure TM will be appearing on TGYH?

Because listening to the latest eps of Get This, I get the impression Tony is either not on or is playing extremely coy.

Tom was on Monday or Tuesday (I forget which) and Tony didn't know when TGYH was coming back and didn't mention his involvement at all, which you would think he would do.

He's also made other comments over the past few weeks like asking what Ed was working on with Working Dog (presumably TGYH) and Ed saying he can't discuss it.

So, I don't know. What do people think? Playing coy?

As the source of the rumour about T Martin on TGYH, what I know is this: a mate of mine (and T Martin fan) interviewed Tommy G about the return of TGYH for a TV Guide article, and according to him (the friend, quoting Tommy G), Tony Martin would be in the first episode. This was a couple of weeks back so perhaps the order of the eps might have been changed, but unless Tommy G was lying it seems pretty certain. Has anyone seen anything offical about next week's line-up? It seems like Working Dog are keeping it under their hats at the moment, which could explain why Tone's not saying anything...

On some of the recent eps of Get This Tone asked Ed etc. rather coyly about the return of TGYH and whats going to happen on it etc... sounding like he knows absolutely nothing which to me is as good an indicator as any that yes he will actually appear in the series !

Lets hope so anyways..

On now !!!!!!!

And already in the intro T.Martin has made about 3 one liners funnier than just about anybody who has appeared on the show thus far ..

Shane Bourne .. "So how do you feel about tonight blah blah ... "

T.Martin: "I can't even improvise an answer to that"

:D

Does anyone else think Tone's challange was tailored to his particular abailities? Plenty of chances for pop culture references (going all the way back to Pussyfoot!), strange trends (moondogging!), and Ed chilling out on the couch with him. Hopefully TGYH might try a bit harder to come up with scenarios that play to a performer's strengths - much as it's fun to see someone struggle, working with a performer usually results in better TV, as shown by Tone's segment (which for mine was the clear winner on the night).

Tony was by far the winner of last night!
I knew they'd give it to Anh tho.....it's more of an encouragement award.

Excellent, excellent episode!

Im still cracking up about the Lenny Kravitz joke.

Not sure if Tone's challange was tailored to his particular abilities as with his costume and the lost of his glasses he wasn't to sure what to expect (compared to Anh in the chef costume and Tone did comment on this) and that he taught he was on a surfing show that a music /tehcnology show. Still the popular culture references were corkers (the Lenny Kravitz opening line- gold) in both of Tone's segment. Did deserve to win but prehaps that Tom was judging and knowing/working with him for 20 years, conflict of interest could have occur with a first up appearance. At least Cal Wilson was good as the token female and prove way better than anything Fifi Box could have produced.

Tone was brillaint. References to Lenny Kravitz, Pussycat.... His title in the group segment "Guy of Sebastian", conquoring the kingdom of Mulgrave! pisser - yes the winner of the night.

When he appeared in his sketch I was waiting for the "Where's Wally" reference with the scarf around his neck etc etc...

good episode...

Hamish is also an outstanding performer on this show.

All of them were pretty good last night.
Heard an interview with Santo during the day yesterday where he said Anh Do gets shown a situation or given a line and laughs like he is a member of the audience.
He also pointed out, which I noticed later when I watched it, was that when Tony walks out to chat to Shane before going through the door, he clearly can’t see anything. He looked like Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.
Hamish Blake was brilliant as well. I could just see him slipping perfectly into the Late Show cast if there were a time warp.
I get the feeling though that he was a massive fan of the show when he was a kid, have heard a few references to it, and always shows heaps of respect when one of the old crew comes on his radio show.
