The Games TV series, starring John Clarke, Bryan Dawe, Gina Riley and Nicholas Bell.

Does anyone know if the other season are on DVD yet? I have season 1 but haven't been able to track down if and when season 2 will be released.

I loved this series, some of John Clarkes best work since Fred Dagg

There is such a demand for the second season out there on the internets that people have put up an analogue cap of their VHS copies in torrent form. I haven't grabbed it yet, as I have them on VHS and am trying to be prudent with my download quota, but I'm sure I'll grab it sooner or later. It's on diwana.

According to John Clarke's excellent website (http://www.mrjohnclarke.com/) he's putting together a series 2 DVD set soon. He's also releasing a best of Clarke & Dawe DVD which, if anything, is even more exciting.

Good news! Thanks for the update Bean.

I've got all the Clarke & Dawe books, as well as John Clarkes books "The Tournament" and his small book on Australian verse.

He is absolutely brilliant. I hope he gets involved in another comedy show/series again (other than the Clarke and Dawe thing, which is great)

Clarke's got a production company with Sam Neill, but so far the major thing they've done is adapt two of the Murray Wheelan novels for TV. They were good, but a new Clarke-penned comedy would be better. But given that this is the Australian industry we're talking about they're probably constantly pitching just such an idea and getting the cold shoulder.

Sam Neill has been pretty well tied to his winery in NZ hasn't he?

Two Paddocks I think its called.

I dunno. I did check out the website for his winery though. There's a great photo of Sam with an enormous wineglass full of red. He seemed to be looking forward to drinking it.

A friend interviewed Neill for some movie recently. If he wasn't drunk, he'd been honking onto the wacky tobaccy was the verdict. But a nice bloke all the same.

What is it with actors starting their own wineries? Apparently John Wood has one in the Yarra Glen area

Man, is a single thread not going off-topic these days?

John Clarke better have a winery!

I'm not sure John is involved with wine at all.

not yet anyway

If you go onto John Clarke's website there's a diary about the making of the Murray Wheelan films. He mentions an after-shoot drinking sesh there. I realise this doesn't actually constitute owning a winery. Still, with Clarke having conquered cyberspace, I imagine Chateau Dagg Shiraz will be hitting the shelves soon.

He He..
My brilliant first assistant, Annie Maver, has a cascading, peeling laugh which lifts and builds and then reaches a cruising height and ultimately decks the halls with boughs of holly. People who have never previously encountered this machine of delight, normally need a couple of days to acclimatise.
..and don't all Late Show fans know it?

Aw, I didn't realise The Murray Wheelan movies had such talent in it. Darren Casey! Mick! The chick who did "Not happy, Jan!"! As a Wenham fan, I can't believe I missed out on this. Was it on the telly? $50 for the boxset from his site, does this seem ok? Can't say I've seen it anywhere else though. Very cool little set up he has there. How grouse would it be if Tony had same?

They were on 7 a few years back - $50 for the box set is okay, but if you sniff around at your local pawnbrokers you can probably grab the movies for under $10 each seperately. Or just rent them. They're not the bestest things ever (to be honest, with all the talent involved I thought they were a little disappointing), but they're still well worth checking out.

I bought both from Ezy DVD for 14.95 each not long after they were released. Stiff was the better of the two. Very good script, just some hastily cobbled together acting kinda ruined it.

BBC plans Olympic comedy From Worst Week writers

The BBC has ordered a mockumentary about the 2012 Olympics from the writers of The Worst Week Of My Life.Going for Gold will centre on the fictional deputy chair of the Olympics organising committee struggling to get a venue ready on time.
Mark Bussell, who is co-writing the feature-length piece with Justin Sbresni, told trade magazine Broadcast: ‘He’s responsible for putting on the greatest show on Earth - you couldn’t imagine a job with higher stakes.
‘In Worst Week-style, it will show all the pitfalls and travails he faces as he awaits the International Olympic Committee’s visit.’
The show is likely to air next year.

This has been mentioned somewhere. When previously mentioned it was an official remake...I wonder if Clarke is still involved.

Still waiting for series 2 release too...

I think the line "Worst Week style" suggests Clarke is no longer involved. Neither is anyone all that funny, I'd hazard a guess.

I interviewed Clarke at the end of last year and he said The Games s2 would be out on DVD this year, so at this stage I'd say "just in time for Christmas"!

Rick McKenna, husband of Gina Reilly, apparently bought the rights to The Games from Clarke/Ross Stevenson last year in the hope of flogging it to the UK in time for 2012. Whether this is the result or not, I don't know. I'd have assumed a UK version of The Games would have more a The Thick of It feel.

I absolutely love the Games and really want the second season to be released! They have said for years that it is 'coming out soon' to no avail. So, I decided to take ACTION! :P

Good idea! It's been way too long.

(I interviewed Clarke late last year and he said it was definitely going to happen in 2009, along with a collection of his interviews with Brian Dawe. The interviews are supposed to be out on DVD in October, so maybe The Games s2 is due around Xmas?)
