Well, not that odd, but still... http://www.reeldvd.com.au/october.asp
What's odd about this is that both films first came out through Roadshow. It seems that the licence has lapsed and Reel - who make a habit of re-releasing old titles (see also Romper Stomper on the same page) - have stepped in. Though for all I know, Reel and Roadshow have the same parent company.
Anyway, for all you completeists, now you have another version (with the Reel logo) to collect!
*edit* And they're bringing out Boytown in November! (plus Proof)

Yeah, they were packed like that for a while, but then Bad Eggs was ejected in favour of Boytown. Funny, eh?

Oooh, I love Proof. Well, used to, but mainly for Mr. Weaving back when he was more famously known for his portrayal of Douglas Jardine and his involvement with the famous "bastard" line, than he is now for all those cult/action figure type heroes he's done. I'm not sure how my feelings towards Mr. "High Horse Honey" will hold up. Gosh, this reminds me, I still have to get Death in Brunswick.
I love how all these films from my/our formative years are getting a release. What about that odd one with Greg Pickhaver as the maniacal dentist?

Oh, yay, I'd been looking for a DVD of Proof for ages! Last year when I was teaching at my last school we used that film for Year 11 Media, and I liked the unit so much I wanted to teach it here at my new school. You reckon I could find the DVD anywhere? "Sorry, mate, it's been discontinued." Or they'd try to sell you the American film Proof. I did see it in the ABC Shop earlier this year packaged with about 10 other films, but didn't feel like paying $120 or whatever it was.....

Make sure you get the two disc version of Death in Brunswick, menagers - there's also a one-disc version around that, well, only has one disc. I mean, it's still good, but you don't get all the extras... which I still haven't watched, but they're nice to have.

Just realised - Roadshow are hanging onto The Castle (in the form of The Castle - Remastered) but are dumping Crackerjack? Guess it's a long-term investment...

Dang it, how come I didn't think of that? Thanks Bauds :)

DVDs from eBay are a bit hit-and-miss in my experience - a few too many pirate copies floating around out there. At least with Amazon you can get a refund (but it's hard to get r4 titles there).
If you have a thousand billion years, hanging around Dixon's and the like usually pays off... eventually.

I don't have a Dixons near me, although I have been known to spend a lot of time in either the Camberwell or Blackburn Dixons when I used to live in the eastern suburbs. I haven't had bad luck buying DVDs on eBay, in fact the only negative experience was some dodgy seller selling me an NTSC version Nintendo 64 game after describing it as a PAL version - that became a Paypal dispute, a story which almost went into chapters :)
I think overall I've managed to remain lucky on eBay!
As for R4 DVDs, it pays to hack your DVD player :) I can now play any region DVD in either PAL or NTSC, on either one of my DVD players. Borders are no barriers to me in my DVD collection anymore!

Ah yes. Blackburn and Camberwell Dixons. I spent an afternoon in and between both just yesterday. Unfortunately, the films I was after, not around just at this stage. But some gold be there if you can spend the time to flick through. Laser discs too. Anyone..??? Anyone? Laser dis....big, di...yeah ok.
Took a bunch of dvd's to Camberwell yesterday. Anyone else done this? How'd you go? I'm trying to work out what the 'Norm' might be for getting some cash for discs and whether I'm going to do it again or try the eBay thing in the future.

Can't help you there, Deanoss, I unfortunately inherited my grandmother's hoarding gene, which means I cannot get rid of a damn thing.....i've still got boxes of things like Smash Hits from the 80s. I'm truly that pathetic.

Oh, nice. So do you still have the pin-ups intact? I still have a rather shabby poster of Rik Mayall in a full length leopard print fur coat . And I can still recall the leopard print leggings on Brian Mannix in his Smash Hits 3m x 3m wall poster that we found in year 12 and turned into a shrine in our common room.
I'm damn impressed that you still have them!
