From the genius of ALDI comes this,

for the amusing price of $69. Kelvin Cunnington would be proud.

How retro does it look? :)

You can buy a cable which you can use to connect your cassette player to the your computer for a lot less than that.
I just want to pop him on a bit of toast and eat him right up.

Ok. Here's the tip.

Unless you have a component tape deck - like one from an old style stereo system that has LINE OUT rather than just HEADPHONES, you have to make sure that you are not putting the tape player's volume up too much. Doing that might increase the signal to noise ratio but at some point it first reaches the point where you're making the tape hiss loud enough to be clearly audible, and then secondly you reach the point where it peaks out your recording on your computer.

So set the input on the computer first as high as it goes, and start with the tape player turned down and slowly(!) bring the volume up until you can hear the voices or music fine, but don't turn it up any more at all because you are just adding tape hiss at that point.

(If you have a LINE OUT then things are a bit easier because you only have to check the recording settings on the computer rather than worry so much about getting the cassette player to the right level. Although if it's a particularly quiet recording, you'd want to go through the HEADPHONES rather than the LINE OUT anyway because you want the right amount of amplifying from the cassette player and it's going to be better quality to turn the source up louder than to amplify it afterward in post.)

I hope that helps, I think I got that right.

D'oh radio noise coming from your cassette player? Try another one?

Went to get one today.....all sold out ((along with the USB record players / turntables)).

I was told my local Aldi only had 7 in stock.

Fucking typical!
