Micf 2011

Post by plattopus » Thu Feb 10, 2011 4:25 pm

Anyone planning on going? What are you looking forward to? Any recommendations?

I've spent the day watching comedy clips on YouTube (livin' the dream) and I realised I haven't seen a MICF show since I saw Bob Downe when I was about 11. I checked out the website and there are so many shows listed that I really wouldn't know where to start, so I am humbly asking for suggested shows I should check out. (Obviously there are a fair few comedians I know already but I'm more looking for the lower profile shows that might be good.)

Looking at the list of comedians performing now. Off the top of my head I reckon I'll be trying to get to:

Maria Bamford (an acquired taste but wonderfully surreal and funny)

Paul F. Tompkins (of Mr. Show fame)

Bob Franklin (duh)

Daniel Kitson (never seen him live despite being a fan for ages)

Geraldine Hickey (saw her last year and she was fantastic)

Greg Fleet (was a bit disappointed last year but hopefully this year'll be better)

Marc Maron (been devouring his WTF Podcast and would love to see him live)

Tommy Little (good young Australian comic, enjoyed his set last year)

And after buying tickets to all those shows I believe I will file for bankruptcy. Sheez.

My tip would be Henning Wehn. He's a German comedian who's been on radio here in the UK a fair bit. I've not seen him live, but on shows like The News Quiz he's pretty funny.
I just want to pop him on a bit of toast and eat him right up.

Is Bob Franklin doing two shows or three? I know there's the "Sir Robert" one and the one where he's on with two other guys, but is there a third that's just him doing regular stand-up?
"Aww great - there goes my genitalia you slutty little monkey!"

He's been doing a few warm-up shows at The Comedy Lounge (the new Comedy Club - with the same vibe as the old Carlton one. It even has a staircase that you could imagine being pushed off or stabbed off), which I think run over into April.

It was wonderful to see him do stand-up again. He did one of my old favourite gags of his about the Radox bath. Ahh, great days.
Are you castin' aspersions on the habeebee?
