i enjoyed that running gag they had at the end of every show in the second series where tony would assign mick the job of getting a famous performer or group and he'd always get the names confused (with the exception of don lane, sadly!)
ok, the premise was incredibly corny but some of the combinations still make me snigger:
pete smith (instead of aerosmith): dude looks like a lady
grassby, grills, nudge and plumb (crosby, stills, nash and young): teach the children well
donnie sutherland (dame joan): some opera song
the only bad one i can remember was the late syd heylen, who was very pissed or perhaps in the throes of dementia when he came on instead of van halen, and he just strummed some tune on his ukulele rather than doing "jump" (thank god)
are there any classics i've missed? i know some others tanked as well, so list them too...

I once gave Syd Heylen directions to my local RSL where he was doing a post Cookie lunchtime show for the pokies crowd. I explained where it was, he turned to his driver and said did you get that? I had to explain it again and Cookie kept talking. The driver said "Syd if you weren't so cut you could drive there yourself. Shut up and let me listen". I wanted to ditch work and see that show so badly. That was about 1996. i think he may atill have been drunk from his night on The Late Show

Al Grasby has died. His performance with Luckee Grills and others will be entombed forever on our DVDs!

Do you think Grills, Nudge and Plumb will come out of retirement to play at the funeral?

Unlikely, but then again, stranger things have happened.

Not as likely as I'd thought
Radio, television and stage star Gwen Plumb has died at her Kirribilli home in Sydney aged 90.
Grills and Nudge must be looking over their shoulders...
