I kinda remember the theme from the Australia St. skit on the show. Feel free to add in any of the bits I've missed as I'd love to know what they were..

Australia

Australia

This is the street where all the states meet Australia Street.

Australia

Australia

This is the street where all the states meet Australia Street.

(Can't remember how the next bit went but it ended with - )

Our new boys down from the west,
And Victoria still thinks she's best. (Character Name 'Victoria Bitter'.)

(More I can't remember then it ended with - )

... And there's something rotten in the state of New South Wales,

That's about Australia's Story,
Add the Northern Territory,
And there's nothing like this wide brown land to me...

Oh and don't for get Tasmania! - (A reference to Tassie being left off map during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony the previous year.)

The Adelaide character may have had 'Magpie' as her last name, for some reason that rings a bell.

Bonds character in this represented NSW and could have been called 'Rick Veneer' though this may have been the name of another Character on the show. The memories of his are very hazy as I only watched it pining for Doctor Who to return... ;-) lol

This has me stumped, i used to watch afternoons on ABC after primary school, and cannot for the life of me remember this. And then I saw 1985 and realised why. I was in Year 8 that year. By secondary school I wasn't watching afternoon TV any more, coz i was sent to a private school 20-odd km from my home and didn't get home till around 5.30.
I've got the paper!!!

I can't believe that nothing from this has surfaced on YouTube. '85 was late enough that lots of people had those new fangled VCRs and Grame Bond was well liked enough for Aunty Jack that some of those fans must have taped it just because it would have been the only way to get snippets of the Aunty Jack Show, which they use to include.

But after a pretty thorough search... nothing! May be it wasn't that funny?

I vaguely remember this. It was on at 6pm every weeknight and had a really annoying theme song. I remember the Kev Kavanaugh character released a single called " Round Like a Rissole" that had a fucking annoying chorus... "See you round like a rissole, round like a rissole, see you round. Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh.." Yes folks, that was 5 eh's in a row. Even though I was like 8 or 9 when it was on, I could see they didnt have the material to sustain a nightly run.
Singo's a pooftah!

It's a new blog! Read it before I lose interest in it...

The absolute winning ingredient about this show for me, was the unearthing and replaying of The Aunty Jack Show that Bond did on it. My mum, who did much to forge my comedy appreciation, was in absolute raptures about that. It would be like Tony Martin hosting a nightly comedy half hour and playing clips from The Late Show (SUCH A GOOD IDEA BY THE WAY).

I can't remember any of Kev's material, apart from the catchphrase, like you can Skel. But I do remember it being, or rather, Grahame being rather charming. This good vibe must have been strongly forged then, because I've always liked him since.
Are you castin' aspersions on the habeebee?

I've taken time out of my holidays to come online to tell you this...

I was at a dinner on Sunday when I met some friends of the host. Anyway, after a few beers and wines, I was talking to this bloke who was in his mature years and I asked what he did for a living in the past. He kind of diverted away from something in the early 80s, so I tapped into that and I discovered he was briefly the manager for Tim & Debbie. I was amazed at what he told me and he was stoked that I knew so much about Australian TV history and Australian TV comedy before my time, that he let me in on a few 'behind the scenes' stories about who is hated by comedians and performers, and why.

Unfortunately I can't say anything due to legal issues and the word "allegedly" won't cover my arse or kim's arse, but I can say that the whole thing about that dude who has a V in his name and that Tony kept dropping hints on Get This is 95% true. Also, not many performers are fans of that guy "who looks like Paul Hogan"... but he did say that Steve Blackburn, Rob Quantock and most of the crew from AYSII were very polite, friendly and professional.. especially at the start of their careers where it was full of egotistical pricks. (note how I didn't use their names? There's legal reasons why, so please be careful what you write...)

Anyway, I did ask him why isn't there any DVD releases for AYSII, and other than the usual "copyright and royalty issues", there's a 75% chance the ABC doesn't have the original footage anymore due to budget cuts and storage reasons. Like how most of the early Countdown episodes are gone forever for the same reason.

They appeared in a series of Telstra ads between 1999 - 2001ish. The quote I used was mentioned in the ad itself as whom they looked like as a joke :)

Ahhhhh *light bulb goes off*.

Semi-recent news events should have made some people very happy then.
