I have vague recollections of being taken to meet members of the Young Talent Team at Northland Shopping Centre. This was back in the late seventies, before such events would attract a crushing crowd of people, making safety a problem. I think I met Tina Arena, and Rob McCulloch.skel wrote:On Mick Molloy's Tough Love last week, a caller rang in and said how when he was about ten, Tina Arena left Young Talent Time and everyone on the show cried. Him and his friend saw Joey Perrone in the street one day and starting hanging shit on him by pretending to cry. Joey walked over and punched him in the gut.
A member of the Young Talent Team went to my high school. I won't name drop, since I didn't know her personally, but a few of my classmates in VCE Media Studies and English Literature were friends of her's because she was part of the drama/ school production clique.
She did cop a lot of garbage in the school yard about being on YTT.
One of my sister's friends from school, had an older sister. She went to the Moomba festival, and spotted Joey Perrone on a pirate ship ride at the Moomba carnival. Fans were calling out to him. He waved. However, not being a fan, she instead gave Joey Perrone an obscene hand gesture.
My family did go to a taping of YTT. I would have been about seven years of age. I remember innocently laughing at Joey Perrone. Not because I was being mean. I wasn't that sort of kid. It was because of the costume he had on. I'm sure he mouthed,
"What are you laughing at, fat head?"
From memory the episode was an 'International Show'. Joey performed the song I'm An Aussie, Yes I Am.
This makes me realize why as I got older I started going off the show. I wondered what the kids on YTT were like in real life. Not as nice as they came across on TV.
