Re:The Natural Seven
What about the toilet breaks from series one of The Late Show?
I remember them because clips from an ABC variety program The Saturday Show were featured.
I was about six when this program was on, but I remember being allowed to stay up to watch it. I think at the time, I liked The Saturday Show because it seemed like "Young Talent TIme with grown-ups" (that's how I described The Saturday Show back then).
I have vague recollections of watching performances like Summer Holiday.
By the time series one of The Late Show aired, I was in Year 12, so what I liked as a small boy became incredibly cheesy. Who could forget the group of young, wholesome looking singing dancers, The Natural Seven? I laughed so hard at the oufits and the dancing, I had tears in my eyes.

".....that's what's ahead here on Martin Molloy; the only radio show with an inner core of sphagnum."
On Mick Molloy's Tough Love last week, a caller rang in and said how when he was about ten, Tina Arena left Young Talent Time and everyone on the show cried. Him and his friend saw Joey Perrone in the street one day and starting hanging shit on him by pretending to cry. Joey walked over and punched him in the gut.
Singo's a pooftah!

Help me out here. Who was it of whom Bernard said, "It would take years of rehearsal for you to even get up to an acceptable standard?" Was it the Nelligan Sisters or that bloke who "sung" Don't Cry Daddy?

I'd have to rewatch again to tell you that.. but waiting for the new set from Ben !
OMG those Natural Seven clips absolutely make me wet my pants still !! Seriously when rewatching the eps recently they are almost the bits that make me laugh the most!!
What about the guy with the deep voice and the big gap in his tooth.. OMG to hear people crackup in audience as soon as he opens his mouth...

What about Alan and Brenda. Christ that was a dodgy performance. You sortof got the idea that at some stage they'd been doing RSL's, perhaps in the fifties, but they'd spent the last 30 years gardening or hanging about at yacht clubs trying and failing to get membership.
The bit early on where they 'rock out' has to be one of the most chilling moments in Australian television history. That bit where Alan suddenly goes nuts after the suave gentle introduction: 'Wellllllllllleeerrrgghhhh!!' has me pissing myself every single time. Then when she can't get her microphone out of the holder.
Then when she starts kicking her leg.
Then when Bernard says that the bit where she starts kicking her leg was what made it for him.
A classic horror Australian cabaret pot luck moment.

Re: Pot Luck Classics
What about the acts that Bernard King liked?
One I recall was a pensioner who played Honky Tonk piano.
Bernard told her she should team up with a drummer and trumpet player, and get a recording contract with K-Tel/ Hammard (don't remember which).

Re: Pot Luck Classics
Next week, (Sunday night I think) Channel 10 are showing 40th Anniversary special, hosted by Bert Newton and Rove McManus.
I saw the promo this morning, and noticed a quick clip of Pot Luck contestant, Todd Rixon. If some Pot Luck clips are shown, then this will be worth watching, especially for us Late Show fans.
