Bad Movies from when you were young

A few of these films have found their way on to Region 2 DVD in the Saturday Morning Pictures series (although I think the DVDs may well be deleted now so will set you back a fair bit if you want to buy them). I saw a couple a few years ago: Egghead's Robot and The Adventures of Hal. They were a bit pissweak if I'm honest.

I'd dearly love to see 1984's Pop Pirates again, mind, but I don't think that's ever seen the light of day on DVD.

I recently committed an unforgivable sin. I took my 4 year old daughter to the Bratz movie. As a film, it was pure, pure evil. I will never be able to remove the stain of it from my brain. It had one of those awful premises where there is a horrible world of nasty, stereotyped, prejudiced people. At the head of all this unpleasentness is the wicked witch type character who is, of course, a scheming bitch. The idea is that the stars of the show will convince everyone to live a better lifestyle and they all go off skipping into the sunset. HOWEVER, they totally failed to give the aforementioned B'atch her comeuppance, she ends up tying for first, not coming last. And the Bratz (well this is where I should have known better) just glorify the world of shopping and wearing too much make-up .

Luckily my daughter was far more interested in her popcorn, glow in the dark M&M's and weird, unnatural, apple slices from Maccas that never go brown, to notice. Or so I hope.

My point is, am I living in a La-La dream world where all the films from my youth are glorified masterpieces? But I simply can't recall ever seeing a bad one. Sure there was more bad langauge and violence, but there was no sexualisation of children. As a child, do we ever walk out of a cinema saying "no good, mama"?

Give me The Dark Crystal, Ewoks: Caravan of Courage, and Flight of the Navigator anyday, over this current modern malarki.

I'd add anything starring the Muppets, and E.T. Oh, for the days when a kid's movie was released, and didn't have some promotional tie in with a fast food chain.

Love Lines was a weak comedy from 1984. It starred Michael Winslow, and Mary Beth Evans (best known for her work on daytime drama serials).

Channel Nine would show films like Love Lines at 9:30 on Saturday nights, after Hey Hey It's Saturday and 21 Jump Street.

I just watched Love Lines. Awful.

The Toy is now on Itunes movies. I just watched it this afternoon. I didn't laugh at all. Perhaps given the current climate, or because I just did not find The Toy at all funny.
