OMFG God (yes 2 god's) Kim you lucky lucky ... !!!!!!!!!!!!
Me and my best mate (also TLS fan) would absolutely sell our left & right big toes to be in same spot as you... or at least have your hand!
RH is our alltime top of the list band but we have seen them all of measly one times (in Melb last year - *finally* - thats what you get stuck in the colonies) but it was worth the wait - one of the best ever gigs we've seen..
But 7 times????
And actually shaken Thom E Yorke's hand ??? Grrrrrr well .. if we're ever in the same room we might yank it off ya ! LOL
I can trade you 2 Mick Molloy encounters, one at Crackerjack DVD signing & one sitting near at restaurant! Like.. wow..
Do you like any other UK / Euro bands of similar ilk?? We are seeing Sigur Ros tomorrow night (again *finally*) if you've ever heard of them
A.
PS. Did you hear there's this brilliant ad on TV here at the moment for SCOPE (formely Spastic Society) showing a wheelchaired guy at Box Hill Train Station waving his arms while Paranoid Android is playing over top.. at the end the TV shows the tagline 'Don't worry he's just another Radiohead fan'. It's been getting heaps of attention partly coz RH donated the song for free for this ad - when you know they'd never sell it to others..

Re: Getting to know you
Sophie Lee played the saxophone in the Freaked Out Flower Children.skel wrote:Does anyone actually remember what Spohie Lee did in that band? I remember her Sex show. They showed "girls bits" close up, blew my 15 year old mind. I also remember people finding Agro funny. Weird that. My sister went to an adults only Agro show at Twin Towns. For the first five minutes he humped one of those bobbing head dogs you put on your dashboard. Now thats champagne comedy.

Re: Getting to know you
My name is Scott (Scotty or Scotty boy to my close friends).
I was in Year 12, then my first year as an Undergraduate Student during 92 - 93 when The Late Show was on the air.
With the recession, double digit unemployment, the early nineties weren't exactly a carefree time, but thanks for the list of memories from that era.
On the positive side, at least the Saturday paper was easy to carry home from the shops back then. Did anyone ever come home exclaiming,"I've got the paper!"?
Other than The Late Show, who remembers?:
TV
Supermarket Sweep (hosted by Ian Turpie and Tania Zaetta). Contestants with names like Shazza and Bronnie used their 'knowledge' of groceries to run around a mini supermarket and win prizes
The revived series of the talent show New Faces, hosted by Bert Newton. Watching this, then The Simpsons was the highlight of my Sunday nights during Year 12.
World Series Debating
Murphy Brown
When Mike Meade and Melvin the robot were replaced, and Now You See It was hosted by Sophie Formica
When Matthew Krok (aka "the little fat kid" from the Mitsubishi and Sorbent ads) joined Hey Dad!
Normie Rowe and Ron Casey's fist fight on The Midday Show
The 90s series of Family Feud, hosted by Rob Brough
Sometime in 1991 when Ben Elton hosted Tonight Live. I still laugh when I remember what he said about McDonalds.
Herman's Head - getting to see the voice of Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith in the flesh
The last episode of The Wonder Years
Eek the cat (hilarious animated series with lots of adult level humour and clever movie and tv references)
For example here's some lines from an episode of Eek the Cat called Eek versus the Flying Saucers...
"Why, Zoltar? Why would you want to destroy such a great planet as Earth? A planet full of wonderful things.
I mean, we've got rivers, and fields, and children, and Dr. Seuss, and Woody Allen and Mr Rogers and Monet, the Muppets, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Shakespeare, Louis Armstrong, the Barbie twins, and..."
Eek's favorite interjection was "Kumbaya", and his motto was, "Sure, it never hurts to help!" By the way, my avatar is a picture of Eek the cat.

Movies
Wayne's World - The Scooby Doo ending and shock rocker Alice Cooper's brilliant cameo appearance
Point Break (gotta love that final scene with the cockney speaking Aussie police and the recreated Bells Beach)
Jurassic Park (those effects were cutting edge back in 1993)
Music
Roxette - In December of 1991, I went to their concert at the Tennis Centre, but I still like their music and listen to them now. I recall seeing Swedish expats wearing Swedish flags like capes, and with their faces painted with the colours of the flag in the audience.
All age groups were at the concert, from kids with their parents, teens, and adults. I still remember the audience chant of:
Rox ette!
Clap Clap Clap
Rox ette!
Clap Clap Clap
On the taxi ride home afterwards, the driver told us about how, at the AC/DC concert held at the same venue a week earlier, half the crowd got thrown out by security. I was glad that Roxette fans were well behaved!
MC Hammer
German rock band The Scorpions, with that poignant song about the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. This was my favourite song of 1991
That Van Halen album with a rude acronym for a title
Heavy metal bands going soft and acoustic, and putting out sensitve ballads, for example:
Extreme
Mr Big
Some other band with a song that went, "I need you now, more than words can say.." A DJ on Triple M (Lee Simon I think) said that this was the kind of song to "make you feel like throwing up into your breakfast bowl".
(These songs still get played on those 'Love songs and dedications' shows that I listen to when I'm out in my car on weeknights)
Sophie B. Hawkins (uggh!)
Radio
Danger: Low Brow (discovered them when they moved from Triple R to Triple M)
Video games
You bought a system made by either Sega or Nintendo. At the time when the Late Show debuted, gamers were counting down to when Streetfighter 2 would be released on the Super Nintendo.

I'm sure I've mentioned this elsewhere here, but I was a huge DLB fan - I've still got both their tapes and their crappy G'N R inspired t-shirt somewhere. I even taped their recent 'reunion' special on RRR... which, to be honest, wasn't all that special
Leapin' Larry is currently writing a fair bit of stuff for The Age, Brett Duck is Nine News' Brett McLeod, Double A is still reading the news on some radio station I only ever seem to hear on public transport, and Dennis Twilight is... out there somewhere.

LSNut... apologies for the delayed reply but yes... I have shaken the Yorke's hand
Guess I've been VERY lucky to have seen them in Europe so many times. On Wednesday, I am actually meeting up with a girl I met backpacking when I saw RH in 2000... she's from Argentina and has literally travelled to Europe several times in order to see all their gigs. She's even had free tickets to some of them as she knows the lady who heads up the w.a.s.t.e merchandise department. Now that's lucky!
Yes I have seen Sigur Ros when they first suppoerted RH. But I'm not so into them as I am RH! Have you heard of Kaiser Chiefs? They aren't really like Radiohead but they are a bit like Franz Ferdinand. Anyway, I like their new album

THIS CRACKS ME UP!!! You see, in Year 11 I bought a portable TV to a weekend Geology excursion to the Warrumbungles, in order to watch Saturday's Late Show 'as it happened'. (Circa September 4th 1993.) We tested the reception on the top of a mountain and guess who was on the TV... Mike f***ing Mead!

Did Mike Mead look like a dried out junkie to anyone else bar me?

www.mikemeade.com
I've been to IMDB and discovered it's spelt Mike MEADE.
Looking him up I then rediscover he is now a web designer and has a freaking website
http://www.mikemeade.com
I found it via
http://www.debbiekruger.com/broadcaster ... media.html
This woman's page is so self-indulgent it's not funny. If you want a trip back to the 80s, this is the website for you... I've come across it a few times... did I mention it was self indulgent?. it is a glorified CV.
